Authors

  • Théophile Lenoir, Main Rapporteur, Renaissance Numérique

  • Julian Marel, Rapporteur/Project Officer, Renaissance Numérique

On Friday, April 26, the inaugural session of the AI Dialogues took place at the University of Geneva (UNIGE). The AI Dialogues, a series of strategic discussions initiated by Renaissance Numérique, aim to enhance understanding of international governance of artificial intelligence (AI) for the benefit of civil society, while also developing practical and applicable recommendations for stakeholders involved in shaping future AI frameworks.

Gathered in Geneva for this first day, experts from diverse backgrounds, including academic researchers, private sector actors, and representatives from international organizations and institutions (see the list below), focused on the international governance of AI around three main discussion points:

  • The strengths and weaknesses of centralized international governance,
  • The differences between governance based on voluntary rules and a binding normative framework,
  • The interplay between general regulation and sector-specific regulation.
