EU Digital Review. A speech by Renaissance Numérique at the Nuit de l’Europe at Sciences Po

Sciences Po

Thursday 4 April 2024

Nicolas Vanbremeersch, President of Renaissance Numérique, took stock of the EU's current digital mandate at Sciences Po's Nuit de l'Europe on Thursday 4 April.

On Thursday 4 April, Nicolas Vanbremeersch, President of Renaissance Numérique, took stock of the last five years of European digital policy during a session entitled “Salle des Bilans” at the Nuit de l’Europe event at Sciences Po, alongside other think tanks and associations (Terra Nova, Fondation Jean-Jaurès, IFRI).
In his speech, Nicolas Vanbremeersch presented a number of regulatory initiatives that have marked the European Parliament’s current term of office in the digital field, breaking them down into four categories:

  • Platforms and intermediaries (DMA, DSA)
  • Digital data (Data Governance Act, Data Act, etc.),
  • AI (AI Act, Liability and AI Directive),
  • Cybersecurity and resilience (NIS2, cyber resilience act, DORA).

The President of Renaissance Numérique then went on to discuss the issues and risks involved in such a strategy, and the ways in which the implementation of these many regulations and directives can be supported over the coming years, through a number of tensions: regulation/innovation; autonomy/dependence; implementation/coordination of Member States.

A vast subject which will shortly be the subject of a paper produced by our think tank! Stay tuned!
