As artificial intelligence models grow increasingly capable, having a shared understanding of their risk profiles and assurance that appropriate safety mitigations have been implemented is paramount. This roundtable will explore the risks associated with AI and draw critical lessons from industries like aviation and nuclear energy, as well as general-purpose technologies like genome editing, which have long grappled with measuring and managing complex risks. Discussions will delve into the testing and evaluation approaches and assurance mechanisms that can inspire robust governance in AI. Additionally, the session will highlight the role of the international network of AI Safety Institutes and upcoming reporting frameworks in advancing risk measurement and fostering transparency in the AI ecosystem.
