The impact of immersive technologies in the cultural industries
A changing context for the immersive content industry
The round table “In-theater and museum broadcasting: new opportunities for immersive content producers?” moderated by Jean-François Lucas, is part of the European project STYX, which aims to analyze the socio-economic implications of immersive and decentralized technologies for the cultural and creative industries (CCI). The project aims to understand how these technologies are redefining production, distribution and consumption models for cultural content, with a particular focus on the growing role of the metaverse and artificial intelligence.
The STYX project, supported by the PCEN Chair, explores two complementary axes. The first focuses on content creators, key players in the metaverse economy, who populate these digital universes with immersive, innovative experiences. The second examines the structural transformations affecting CCIs and the emerging hybrids between immersive techniques and cultural industries, highlighting both the potential and the challenges for French companies.
New opportunities for immersive content in cinemas and museums
The event addressed the new prospects opening up for producers of immersive content in cultural venues such as museums and theaters. The distribution of immersive content in these spaces makes it possible to create unforgettable experiences for audiences, transforming access to art and culture. This development is part of a wider trend towards immersive experiences in projection and physical encounter spaces, as alternatives or complements to the purely virtual experiences of the metaverse.
